U.S. Congressman. Born in Keene Valley, New York, he was an abolitionist and author, when he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and became a successful sugar refiner. In 1861, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-seventh Congress, serving until 1863. After his term, he resumed his previous business interest until his death at age 75 in Keene Valley, New York.
