Robert G. Beck was born August 26, 1925, in Beverly, Massachusetts to Victor and Frances Beck. He was their only son. Bob worked at the United Shoe Factory in Beverly until WWII when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Bob met Evelyn Schiff while in cadet training at Coe College where she was attending school. Evie Schiff was from Amana, Iowa, and they married on June 15, 1944 in Phoenix, Arizona. They had three children and two grandchildren.
After the war Bob worked several jobs - spraying crops in Iowa, selling door-to-door, and then started a small air freight business. He was eventually hired by United Air Lines and moved to McHenry, Illinois. He retired from United as a Captain in 1986 and moved to Punta Gorda Florida where he enjoyed the sailboat he always wanted.
