Mrs. Ramona Austin Hunter, 81, of Clemmons, NC passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center.

Mrs. Hunter was born in Hatteras, NC on November 12, 1929 to Andrew Shanklin and Inez Lynn Daniels Austin.

Mona's greatest joys in life were her family, friends and her beloved pet, Missy. She and her husband, Bill walked in all 50 states and 16 foreign countries as participants in Volksmarch events. She was an avid quilter and Red Hatter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Andrew "Shank" Shanklin Austin, Jr.; and a sister, Marjorie A. Newton.

Mrs. Hunter is survived by her loving husband, William Alfred Hunter, Jr.; four sons, Michael Austin Wilson of Denver, NC, Steven Craig Wilson and wife Pam of Raleigh, NC, Patrick Burton Wilson and wife Marina of Cummings, GA, and Adam Spach Wilson and wife Cat of Vancouver, WA; a stepson, William A. Hunter, III and wife Karen of Advance, NC; six grandchildren, Steven, Lauren, Megan, Max, Stacey, and Emma; two step grandchildren, Emily and Holly; two sisters, Josephine A. Oden of Hatteras, NC and Sybil A. Skakle of Chapel Hill, NC and a close friend, Patricia Dye .

A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 at Clemmons United Methodist Church with Rev. Marcus Portis officiating.

Burial will follow at a later date at Austin-Oden Cemetery in Hatteras, NC. Memorials may be made to Outer Banks Community Foundation, Inez Daniels Austin Scholarship, 13 Skyline Rd., Southern Shores, NC 27949 or to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
