Ruth was born in W. Mahoning Twp., Indiana Co., PA, the daughter of William Huddleson Crawford and Mary Rosanah Gourley. She never married. She was completely paralyzed with rheumatoid arthritis for the last sixteen years of her life. Her mother and sister, Mary, cared for her.
