J. D. WINTERROWD, a resident of Athens for 22 years, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday at Woodlawn hospital. He was 96 years old and had been ill one month.

Born Dec. 7, 1867 in Howad county, he was he son of Michael and Mahala MAZE WINTERROWD. He was married in Kokomo on Nov. 8, 1899 to Nellie MAZE. He moved to Athens from Plymouth. A retired farmer, Mr. Winterrowd was a member of the Tippecanoe Methodist church.

Surviving are the wife; four daughters, Mrs. Harold (Elma) FANNING, Tippecanoe, and Mrs. C. G. (Alta) BEST, Mrs. Paul (Delta) SCHROM and Mrs. Denzil (Wauneta) ELLIOTT, all of Plymouth; three sons, Wayne [WINTERROWD[, Delphi, George [WINTERROWD], Rochester, and Max [WINTERROWD], Akron.

Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, one of whom is Kenneth WINTERROWD, formerly of Rochester, who was reared by Mr. Winterrowd and his wife; and a sister, Mrs. Nona HOUSER, Meridian, Miss. Six sisters and three brothers preceded in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Community church at Tippecaoe with the Rev. Eldon EVANS officiating. Burial will be in the Tippecanoe cemetery. Friends may call at the Sheetz funeral home in Akron from 1 p.m. Wednesday until noon Thursday and at the church for one hour before services.
