Homer I. Estes, 89, of 705 Sixth Ave., died Monday, Nov. 28, 1994, in his home after a Lengthy illness. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, George L. Gay Funeral Home, Iowa City, by the Rev. Nancy English. Burial: Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva; two daughters, Nancy Garrett of Coralville and Beverely (Mrs. Robert) Nelson of North Liberty; a son, James A. of Coralville; three sisters, Ressie Ruggels and Goldie Sable, both of Fairfield, and Lola Pauly of Lexington, Ky.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
He was born Dec. 2, 1904, in Webster, the son of Isaac and Sarah Elizabeth Collins Estes. Homer attended school at Brick School House in Keokuk County and Motel Manager School in Colorado. He was a farmer and operator for Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric and a member of Kiwanis. Homer married Geneva McCabe on Oct. 18, 1937m in Sigourney. They moved to Iowa City in 1940.
