Gordon was five years old when he and his younger sister accompanied their parents who had joined a wagon train of settlers. The family traveled from Winnipeg, Manitoba to southern Saskatchewan. His parents built a sod house where the family lived for three years while they proved up their quarter section. In 1908 his father paid the $10 fee to acquire the land. The Village of Milden, Saskatchewan was incorporated in 1911.
The 1916 Canadian Census records for the Village of Milden, Saskatchewan lists Gordon as a farmer living with his parents. He farmed from the age of at least 15 years until about 1930 when he became a mechanic.
Gordon married Evelyn Estelle Stobbie (1915-1995) in 1934 in Edmonton, Alberta. The couple had two daughters.
Gordon enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Reserves (RCA) in World War II, he became a Sargent. He was unable to be sent to Europe because he had seriously injured his leg in a farming accident.
He then married Agnes Lauder in about 1948 and the couple had one son. In the 1970's they owned a beautiful red Irish Setter dog. Gord's paternal grandparents were both Irish.
His wife Agnes is buried beside him in the Veterans Section of the North Battleford Cemetery.
