Moved from Jefferson City, Missouri to Jackson County, Missouri 1852. He settled in Westport and reportedly worked as a daguerreotypist, artist, carpenter, mayor of Westport, police judge, and town marshall (1858). His studio was on the southeast corner of Westport Ave and Pennsylvania.

"It is not certain when the first photographer settled in Jackson County, Missouri. The few sources for this period of history are for the most part unsearched. John Frazier, a daguerrean artist, is listed in the 1850 Census for Jackson County. Frazier was born in Missouri (July 26, 1819), lived in Westport, Missouri, worked as a photographer at least as late as 1870, died April 17, 1900, and is buried in Union Cemetery. Frazier may deserve the title of first photographer in what would become Kansas City, Missouri.
