DEATH OF H. P. BOGUE.

Horace P. Bogue, for over thirty years a resident of Bismarck, died at nine o'clock this morning of cancer of the stomach. The illness, which terminated fatally today, has extended over several years, during parts of which time it has occasioned severe suffering. Several months ago he went west for a change of climate, and appeared to make material progress physically. Shortly before his return he was taken with a recurrence of the trouble, and since his return to this city he has been in extremely poor health. For the past few days he has grown gradually weaker until the end, which came this morning.

The death of Mr. Bogue marks the passing of another of the pioneers of Bismarck. He came to the city in 1872, with Dr. W. A. Burleigh, who came up from Sioux City to do some grading for the Northern Pacific railroad, then building its transcontinental line across the state. He held a claim south of the city for a time for the L. S. & P. S. company, and was in the city all through the stirring early days of the capital city.

He has held many positions of trust and political preferment. For several terms he was alderman; he was postmaster of Bismarck under Harrison; for two terms he was sheriff of Burleigh county; he was also a charter member of James B. McPherson Post, G. A. R., of this city. He was also engaged in business on several occasions. In early days he was a partner in the restaurant business of Bogue and Kihm. He was also in business as a tobacconist, in the old stand on Main street, where the Dahl clothing store now is.

Mr. Bogue was born near Polo, Ill., Oct. 20, 1843, being at the time of his death a little more than 60 years of age. He served through the war in the 65th Illinois volunteers. He was married in this city and leaves a wife and two children, H. P. Bogue, assistant postmaster, and Mrs. C. W. La Moure.

The deceased was a firm friend, a good citizen, and a large circle of friends and acquaintances will regret his death and extend sympathy to his sorrowing family.
