Amanda L. Bethel, 96, Dies Friday; Services Held Here

Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. Amanda L. Bethel, 96, who died April 24 in Compton. Besides her immediate family of five sons and two daughters, she is survived by some 400 descendants. A former Selma resident, she had lived in California for 38 years.

Officiating at the services conducted in the Page funeral chapel was Rev. Gunnar Jorgenson of Compton. Burial was in Floral Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bethel was born in Marion County, Arkansas, July 21, 1856. She was wed to W.M. Bethel in 1872. To this union were born 16 children, 11 boys and 5 girls.

Mrs. Bethel's surviving sons are Ben of Selma, Ira G. of San Francisco; J.W. of Oregon, W.C. of Bakersfield, and Ernest of Oregon. Her surviving daughters are Mrs. Minnie Williams of Compton and Mrs. Nancy Graham of Washington
state. One-hundred and ten grandchildren, 111 great grandchildren, 40 great-great grandchildren eight great-great-great grandchildren were also named as decendants by the family.
