Death Takes Firm Owner R. B. Bennett

Raymond B. Bennett, 68, of 3922 Windsor, owner of the Southern Commercial Co., real estate and investment firm, died Wednesday in a Dallas hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Bennett, a veteran Dallas businessman, was born in Groesbeck, Limestone County, and graduated from the Mexia High School. He attended the old Metropolitan Business College in Dallas and Tyler Commercial College.

He started business in Mexia in 1921 oil boom and was owner of the Bennett Hardware and Implement Co. there. That same year, he married Miss Fay Richards.

After moving to Dallas in the middle 1920's, he became associated with the late H. M. Munger and was general manager of the Munger Oil & Cotton Co.

He also owned and operated the Bennett & Rice Nursery and Greenhouse Wholesale and Retail Co. In later years, he was associated with his father-in-law, W. E Richards, in the Southern Commerce Co.

He was a member of Highland Park Methodist Church.

Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Eugene Bragg Smith Jr. of Dallas; a brother, Henry Bennett of Coolidge, Limestone County, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Sparkman's Funeral Chapel, 2155 Ross, with the Rev. William H. Dickinson and the Rev. Don Benton officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be David M. Lide, Jr., Dr. Bryan Williams, Dr. Elgin Ware, Edward T. Slaughter, Dr. Fred Horn, Clyde Seymour, Reed Baxter, W. K. Setzer, O. P. Emerson, Ross Hemphill, Robert T. Griffith and George A. Biersach.
