Milo Holroyd was born July 3, 1888 in Delaware County, Iowa, a son of Thomas and Hattie (Rhines) Holroyd. His mother passed away when he was 9 days old. His father married Susanna Voshell 2 years later. She raised and loved Milo as her own. Milo received his early education at the Campton school on the corner of the farm where he grew up. He had a kind disposition, always willing to help around the farm.

Milo's father went to Dubque, Iowa with Milo when he got married. Milo's sister, Alta writes that she and her mother had a big supper waiting when they returned. Milo and his bride Emma rented a farm near Dundee, Iowa, close by the Chicago Great Western Railroad. He had a milk route and did farming, keeping a close eye on the livestock (especially the mules who liked to head for the tracks).

After a time, Milo and Emma moved with their young family to a farm in Benton County, Minnesota. They lived there for a few years and later moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan. Here, Milo continued to farm and was employed at a paper mill. Returning home from work one day, he was involved in a tragic auto accident that claimed his life.
