DEATH OF J. C. PADGETT
John C. Padgett, 86, a Junction City printer and publisher for many years, passed away Wednesday at Pueblo, Colorado, where he had been making his home with a son, Victor Padgett, for the past three years.

Funeral services for J. C. Padgett, 86, who died Wednesday at his home in Pueblo, Colorado, were to be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon from the Sawtell Funeral home with the Rev. Harry R. Weed in charge. C. A. Gormley will sing, accompanied by Mrs. L. C. Stout. Pallbearers will be Edward Verbeke, R. W. Hart, A. E. Loeckle, A. S. Blazler, J. H. Loeckle, and C. W. Marston. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Mr. Padgett, a printer and publisher have for many years, had lived in Pueblo the past three years with his son, Victor.

Born August 12, 1862, in Kentucky, Mr. Padgett published newspapers in Alta Vista and Council Grove before coming to Junction City more that 40 years ago. Here he published the Junction City Sentinel, operated a job shop, and also taught printing classes in the local high school.

He always was active in local politics in the community and did considerable dealing in real estate and owned considerable property. The family lived at 506 North Webster for more than 40 years before Mr. Padgett sold the home in 1945.

He was a member of the Methodist church and the John Wesley Bible class at the church.

Mr. Padgett's first wife died in Council Grove, and a son, Walter, of Topeka, survives from this union.

Nellie Jones Padgett, second wife of Mr. Padgett, died July 24, 1933, in Junction City. Surviving from this union are a son, Victor J. Padgett, of Pueblo, and two grandchildren, John and Mary Nell. Vivian, a sister of Victor Padgett, died in infancy.

Both Victor and Walter Padgett are accompanying the body here for the funeral and burial services tomorrow.

John C. Padgett of 1015 W. Routt, passed away on November 10, 1948. He is survived by his sons, Victor John Padgett of Pueblo, Colorado and Walter Marion Padgett of Topeka, Kansas. He was a member of the Methodist church at Junction City, Kansas.

The body was shipped to Junction City, Kansas for services and interment. He was buried on November 13, 1948, age 86 yrs, 2 months, and 28 days.
