Betty Haynes, 88, Sebring, FL, was born to Major Vern L. and Bessie Ruth Barker. She graduated from Frankfort High School and attended Eau Claire State Teachers College in Eau Claire, WI. After two years of college, she followed her family to Sebring when her father was transferred to Hendricks Field during World War II. It was there she met and married James L. Haynes. After service life, they founded Triangle Iron Works in Sebring, eventually selling the business to become citrus growers. She not only took care of her children, but found time to make custom draperies from her home. After many years as a seamstress, she eventually worked for the property appraiser' s office in Sebring. She was much loved by the office staff who affectionately called her "Betty Boop." She enjoyed membership in the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution and Women' s Club of Sebring. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sebring, where she held the honor of having the oldest membership. She was preceded in death by her parents, Major Vern L. and Bessie Ruth Barker; husband, James L. Haynes; sisters, Anjel Dunn and Joyce Durrance; and brother, Major Bill Barker. Survivors include her son, Mike Haynes (Linda Heuerman); daughter, Melody Haynes; granddaughters, Layla Haynes (Andy) and Roxanne Guillen (Abraham); and sisters-in-law, Marjorie Haynes, Ernestine Barker and Jean Hall: and many nieces and nephews.
