Jacob Ell, 87, Bismarck, died Aug. 26, 1999, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Edwin Wehner officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Jacob was born July 7, 1912, in Emmons County, the son of Mathias and Helen (Bosch) Ell. He was raised and educated in rural schools in Emmons County. On May 25, 1936, he married Mary Mathern.

They farmed until 1952 when they moved into Linton. He worked at various jobs in Linton until moving to Bismarck in 1957. He worked for Zoller Construction and the Sweetheart Bakery before beginning at the State Capitol as a custodian, where he remained until his retirement.

He was an active member of Eagles Club, and a member of St. Anne's parish.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, at St. Vincent's Nursing Home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Frank Jacob, Linton, and Rose and Del Jose, Battle Lake, Minn.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Leo and Sally, Oakes, and Mathew, Boise, Idaho; 20 grandchildren, Ken, Edward and Gerard Jacob, Rita Mosset, Mary Dusek, Lucy Peterson, Rick, Kerry and Mark Ell, Deb Krause, Jeff and Sayle Ward, Julie Kimmel, Jennie Church, Michelle Merritt, Jarame Ell, Jamie Cureton, Suzanna Smith, April and Rebecca Jose; 33 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, John, Bismarck, and Alfred, Aberdeen, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; eight sisters; one daughter, Pauline Ward, in 1972; and four grandchildren.
