Larue was the daughter of Armon Hezekiah Smith and Rosa Lea Ogden. Larue was 6 years old when her mother died and 9 years old when her father was killed. After her father's death, Larue lived with her older sister Marie in Spearsville, Union Parish, Louisiana. During her Senior year at Spearsville High School, Larue roomed with Mr. and Mrs. Josh Lambert. In 1939, she graduated high school and moved to Shriever, Louisiana where her older brother Loy lived.

On 26 March 1943, Larue Smith and Conrad Merville "Boo" LeBlanc were married. Their sons are Michael and Keith.

Larue was a genealogist. She loved researching the Smiths and was always willing to share her information.
