Gladys was a member of Potter Park United Methodist Church, Calvary United Methodist Church and Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, and was active in the Joy Circle and the Bible study.
She worked as a bookkeeper for several automobile dealerships, including Story Olds and Sawyer Pontiac.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Askew; brother, Kenneth Oliver; sister-in-law, Margaret Allen; and her parents, Edwin and Ada Oliver.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Denise Knechtges of Lansing; 2 grandchildren, Patrick and Laura Knechtges; sister-in-law, Ida Hobbs; nephews, Bruce (Karen) Oliver and Steve (Deidre) Oliver; and ex-son-in-law, Richard (Kathy) Knechtges.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Pastor William Haggard officiating.
