Ann Michele Banfield, 37, of Gilberts, Illinois, formerly of Decatur, died Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the University of Chicago Hospital. Ann was born April 2, 1974 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Wayne and Connie Banfield. She was a 1992 graduate of Stephen Decatur High School, 1996 graduate of Millikin University and received her Masters Degree from Drake University. Ann started her teaching career as a Health and Physical Education Teacher and Assistant Athletic Trainer at Naperville North High School in 1996. Four years later she became Head Athletic Trainer and Health and Physical Education teacher at Glenbard East High School in Lombard, Illinois. While at Glenbard East she was very active in community service projects with her students. She worked with the local Ronald McDonald House with many different endeavors and did many other volunteer projects. She was the former Secretary and very actively involved with the Illinois Association of Athletic Trainers. Ann is survived by her parents, boyfriend Matthew Mattoon, sisters Allison Sparrow and husband Steve, Joy Stoerger and husband Wes, nephews Skyler and Seth Sparrow, Drew and Cole Stoerger. She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and may friends. She was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and her cousin.
