Death of Mrs. Isaiah Couture at Her Home in Alverno
The sudden summon which called to her Heavenly home Mrs. Isaiah Couture, of Alverno, last Monday morning at 6:30 o’clock, has cast a gloom over the entire community. She had been ill for some time and appeared considerably better last Friday morning, but the rays of hope were soon to be shadowed, for she commenced shortly afterwards to fail and nothing could stay the hand of death and she passed into the great beyond, leaving a sorrowing family and many friends. The funeral was held yesterday forenoon at St. Francis’ church, Alverno, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place. Requiem high mass was said by Fathers Charles, Albert and George DeQuoy, who are brothers of the deceased, and they were assisted by Fathers Magnan and Webeler of this city. A large concourse of people were present at the last sad rites to pay their respects to the deceased. Mrs. Couture leaves a husband, two daughters, Marrietta, aged 26 months, Alene Gabriel, aged three months, a mother, Mrs. DeQuoy, who lived with Mrs. Couture, nine brothers, Alfred, Louis and Fr. Charles DeQuoy of Alpena, Ferdinand, Dr. Joseph, Clement, and Henry DeQuoy of Montreal, Fr. Albert DeQuoy of Alverno, and Fr. George DeQuoy of St. Joseph Seminary Grand Rapids, two sisters. Mrs. Tule LeBlanc of Alpena and Mrs. S. DesChatelet of Montreal, and a host of friends who will deeply regret her early demise. Mrs. Couture was born at Montreal, Canada 39 years ago and came to Michigan with her parents about fifteen years ago. Her father died at Alpena in April 1909. She was married to Isaiah Couture on June 14, 1905. Hermine DeQuoy was a lovable woman, faithful In every trust. She was well educated and was an accomplished musician. The immediate relatives, who are left to mourn, have the deepest sympathy of all in their bereavement. Published in the Cheboygan Democrat, Friday, January 31, 1913, Page 6.
