Carl E. "Babe" Carmean, 77, of Spencerville, died at 5:55 p.m. Saturday at St. Rita's Medical Center.

He was born May 20, 1928, in Delphos, to Gordie Isaac and Agnes Rose (Kohorst) Carmean.

On June 24, 1951, he married Glenna LeMar of Venedocia, who survives.

Other survivors include four daughters, Barbara (Gary) Zeigler, Connie (Tom) Wegesin and Debra (James) Wells of Wapakoneta and Glenna Binkley of Lima; three sisters, Almeda (John) Ondo of Lima, Rita (Richard) Suever of Delphos and Patricia Johnson Indianapolis; a brother, Gordon (Betty) Carmean of Delphos; a sister-in-law, Ursula Carmean of Delphos; 15 grandchildren, Jeff, Doug and Craig Obringer, Arleen Boley, Tisha Lindberg, Tonya Zeigler, Mikisha Selbert, Jessica Frew, Krystal, Megan and Seth Wegesin, Amber Turnmire and Mike, Brian and Mark Carmean; a stepgrandchild, Kristine Wells; 15 great-grandchildren, Krysta, Kelsey, Patrick, MacKayla, Jacob, Hailey and Colton Obringer, Courtney and Andrew Boley, Lauren Lindberg, Rylie and Carl Lee Carmean, Jaden Markins and Laurel and Cadence Frew; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Breanna Bommershine, Tasha Baldwin and Trevor Frew.

He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Lee Carmean; a brother, Lee Carmean; a son-in-law, Robert Obringer; and a brother-in-law, Melvin Johnson.

Mr. Carmean retired in 1991 from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St. Marys with 36 years of service. He attended the Ross Church of the Brethren in Mendon and was a member of the Monday night church bowling league. He was also a member of the Northwestern Ohio Field and Stream Association. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Glenn Masser officiating. Burial will be in Wright Cemetery near Converse.

Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to Ross Church of the Brethren.
