Old Time Resident Answers Final Call
Death claimed another old time resident of Fort Benton and Chouteau county on Monday morning of this week when Charles Will Morrison passed away at 12:30 a.m. at the St. Clare hospital in this city following an illness extending over the past two years and more. Mr. Morrison had been a patient at the local hospital for more than a year. Two years ago in April he suffered a stroke of paralysis and for a year he remained at the home of his son, W. T. Morrison, of this city, where he was cared for and then was moved to the hospital.
Mr. Morrison was well known all over Chouteau county and throughout north central Montana as for many years he was connected with business activities in this city. He was also for many years interested in county real estate activities and also took a great interest in oil development work.
Charles Will Morrison was born on Sept. 18, 1869, at Aledo, Ill., and was 72 years, 7 months and 23 days. He spent his early life in Illinois and when quite young moved to Granger, Missouri, where he lived until he came to Montana in 1900, a period of 42 years spent in the Treasure State. He located first at Lewistown, where he was employed in a store in that city, and in 1901 he came to Fort Benton and clerked for the Green store for a year and then was manager of the T. C. Power store here until 1909.
He was united in marriage to Mary Elariom Tattan Oct. 23, 1923. Mrs. Morrison passed away Feb. 14, 1922. In 1910 Mr. Morrison, in partnership with the late John Ward, opened the Ward and Morrison clothing store in this city, which they operated until the fall of 1924. During that time Mr. Morrison also engaged in the real estate business and did considerable business in that line during the homestead days. Following the closing of the clothing store, Mr. Morrison devoted a great deal of his time to oil development work, and was interested in several of the test wells in this county. He also spent considerable time developing mining property in this state.
Mr. Morrison leaves to mourn his passing two children, W. T. Morrison, Fort Benton, and Mrs. W. J. Kirwan, of Great Falls; five grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters: Jim E., of Granger, Mo.; E. B., of Loray, Mo.; Mrs. M. Hammerick, of Witchita, Kan.; Mrs. Minnie Guy and Mrs. Reta Feltman, of Granger, Mo.; besides other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held from the Catholic church in Fort Benton this morning at 10 o'clock, and will be conducted by the Rev. Fr. O'Sullivan. Interment will be made in the family plot in Riverside cemetery. The relatives have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.
