George Daniel Rose, was born Sep. 14, 1846, in Stark Co., Ohio, son of G.D. Rose, born in Germany. He died Dec. 16, 1913, at 1246 East 13th Street, Des Moines, Iowa, aged 77 years, 3 months and 2 days and was buried in Carlisle Cemetery, Carlisle, Warren Co., Iowa.

George married three times with his first marriage Nov. 3, 1858, to Eliza Anderson in Jasper Co., Iowa. She died Feb. 11, 1874, at Carlisle, and was probably buried there in the local cemetery. Their two known children were: Emma, b. 1 Aug 1859 & Elmer E., b. 15 Feb 1862.

George's second marriage was Oct. 20, 1895, in Warren County, Iowa when he was united in marriage to Salina Kelly Scoles, nee Parker. They divorced in about 1900, in Warsaw, Indiana. She was born Feb. 19, 1838, in Penn., daughter of John Parker and Mary Irwin, both natives of New Jersey. She died Jan. 10, 1914, at 1805 E. Longfellow, Spokane, Wash., aged 75 years, 10 months and 21 days and was buried there in Greenwood Cemetery.

George's third marriage was in about 1900 to Ann Paul. She was born July 11, 1838, in Indiana, daughter of Joseph Staffer, born in Maryland and died July 26, 1908, in Wayne Twp., Warsaw, Kosciusko Co., Indiana, aged 70 years and 15 days and was buried there in Oakwood Cemetery.

Dates inscribed on his grave stone, 9/14/1836-12/16/1914, contradict the dates obtained from his pension file at the National Archives, Washington, DC. It is unknown which dates are correct.

George was a Civil War veteran who enlisted October 16, 1861, at Davenport, Iowa, to serve three years as a Private in Company E of the 14th Iowa Infantry. On November 2, 1861, he was mustered into Federal service with Company E at the same location. At that time he was listed in the Company E Descriptive Book as a 25 year old 5'11" tall farmer with light hair, blue eyes and a light complexion born in Stark County, Ohio.

On October 13, 1862, George was wounded by a musket ball in the right shoulder during the Battle of Corinth, Mississippi, while the regiment was serving with the Army of the Mississippi, which totally paralyzed his right arm.

On October 19, 1862, George was admitted to the U.S. General Hospital at Keokuk, Iowa for treatment. On December 21, 1862, he was given a Disability Discharge at the same location. On the discharge it was noted that there had been no improvement in his condition under treatment.

George's brother, Josiah Rose, was also a Civil War veteran having served in Company K of the 28th Iowa Infantry. He married Mary A. Flowers.
