Hilliard died Oct. 8, 1999, at a local hospital.
He was born Oct. 16, 1919, in Killeen and attended Clear Creek School.
Hilliard worked as a civil service employee for the Fort Hood Directorate of Logistics in its carburation and electronics department as a mechanic. He retired in March 1974.
Hilliard served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and he was a member of First Baptist Church of Killeen.
Survivors include his wife, Zane Smale Hilliard of Killeen; two sons, Charles E. Hilliard of Huntsville and Danny A. Hilliard of Leesville, La.; two brothers, Randell Hilliard of Waco and Pat Hilliard of Kilgore; two sisters, Ruby Gault of Killeen and Doris Bass of Lorena, three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Hilliard was preceded in death by his parents, George E. and Janie Currey Hilliard, and two sisters.
