Son of Richard Leslie Akin b.17 Oct 1868 in Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY & d.7 oct 1932 in Joplin, Jasper Co., MO and Caldonia Pendleton b.abt 1872 in Turnback, Lawrence Co., MO & d.aft May 1891 and who were married on 18 Aug 1889 in Aurora, Lawrence Co., Mo.

Carl Lee either added an 's' to the end of his name or had an 's' added to the end of his name to make Akins, sometime after his first marriage between 1915 and 1923. No reason is known why he did that. My father never knew the reason either.

He was also the only child between Richard Leslie Akin and his wife, Caldonia Pendleton, who died sometime after May 1891. Cause of her death is unknown at this time and her gravesite is still unknown. Richard Leslie, his father, remarried in 1923.

Carl Lee Akins was a second generation railroad man. He was a Fireman with the St. Louis San Francisco Railway Co. (FRISCO) who had just been promoted to Locomotive Engineer when he suffered a tragic fatal accident while working.
