Geraldine Sheffield Coffer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and treasured friend of many, passed away at her Dallas home on August 29, 2011. Her boundless optimism, abundant faith in the Lord, strong will power and deep love of her friends and family will be missed by all who knew her.
Gerry was born in Alto, TX to Jesse James (J.J.) Sheffield and Lydia Lee(Cooper) Sheffield on March 1, 1920. She graduated from Rockwall High School and later attended business school and took college courses at night while working full time.
She married her husband, of over 61 years, Joe Wesley Coffer in 1938. They had two sons Bobby (Bob) N. Coffer and Jimmy W. (Jim) Coffer.
Gerry is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe, son Bob, brothers Jesse and Arthur (Buddy) Sheffield and sister Amy Dawson. She is survived by son Jim and daughter Gina Chambers, and 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 15 nieces and nephews.
Gerry found her profession of choice as a Realtor in the late 1960's and soon became a top producer in the Henry S. Miller Company before starting Coffer Realtors in the early '70s. She was a licensed Broker and Certified Residential Specialist and was still active in the company at the time of her death.
Gerry was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star- Edwin J. Kiest Chapter #959. She was also a Charter member of East Grand Baptist Church of Dallas (Now Grand View Baptist in Mesquite).
The family will receive friends at the Grove Hill Funeral Home located at 3920 Samuell Blvd in Dallas on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 am at Grove Hill and interment will follow in Rockwall Memorial Cemetery, Rockwall, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Grand View Baptist Church.
