James Matthias Jordan III, 80, of Virginia Beach, died Aug. 19, 2002.
Mr. Jordan was born in Virginia Beach and was the son of the late James Matthias Jordan Jr. and Elizabeth Browne Jordan. He was the husband of Nanette Schoew Jordan to whom he was married to for 58 years.
He attended Oceana High School and graduated from St. Paul's School in Baltimore, Md. He attended the University of Virginia where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He was retired as one of the former owners and operators of Fuel, Feed & Building Supplies Corp. and later True Value Home Centers (now Taylor's Do It Centers).
Mr. Jordan was a lifelong member of Galilee Episcopal Church and a former member of The Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, Virginia Beach Sports Club, and Princess Anne Country Club. He was also a lifelong member of the Jamestown Society.
He was predeceased by a son, Frederick Schoew Jordan and a brother, Goodwin Shepherd Jordan. Survivors include a sister, Mary Minor McNamara and her husband Thomas; a sister-in-law, Anne Dickson Jordan; three children, James Matthias Jordan IV and his wife Cheryl, Andrew Shepherd Jordan and his wife Mary Downey, Catherine Jordan Wass and her husband John; six grandchildren, Michael Schoew Jordan, Ann Jordan Miller and her husband Joshu A., Paul Gaither Jordan, William Clarke Jordan, Andrew Browne Jordan, and Mary Shepherd Jordan.
A memorial service will be held at the graveside in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery, Virginia Beach, at 11 a.m. Thursday by Dr. Rev. Coleman Tyler. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 945, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.
