Vernard D. "Vern" LaRose
WHITE PINE, Mich. -- Vernard D. "Vern" LaRose, age 76, of 54 Maple St., White Pine, and currently residing at his daughter's home in Gladstone, passed away Monday afternoon, Aug. 29, 2011, at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba following a brief illness.

Vern was born Oct. 5, 1934, in Phillips, Wis., the son of Walter and Julia (Newberry) LaRose. He was raised in Phillips and was a 1953 graduate of Phillips High School. On Dec. 26, 1953, Vern was united in marriage to the former Anne C. Moore, in Phillips, and together the couple made their home and began their family in Wakefield.


Vern worked for the White Pine Mine before retiring following 40 years of employment. During his retirement years, Vern and Anne enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, often with their fifth wheel, to visit family and friends.


Anne preceded Vern in death on Feb. 4, 2006.


Vern loved to spend time outdoors fishing, hunting and camping with family. In addition, he enjoyed tying trout flies and fishing on Lake Superior.


Survivors include a son, Duaine "Butch" (Anita) LaRose of Springvale, Maine; daughters, Diane Stapleton of Iron River, Julie (Bill) Anderson of White Pine, Betsy (John) Sullivan of Wausau, Wis., and Nancy (Dan) Wall of Gladstone; sisters, Ethel Hanish of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and Edith Franchina of Sun City, Ariz.; a special aunt, Louella Ruud of Park Falls, Wis.; and good friend, Roger (Bev) Ikola of Ramsay.


Also listed among Vern's surviving family are 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.


Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Julia; loving wife, Anne; brother, Walter "Wally" LaRose; and his mother- and father-in-law.


Vern's family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Lakeside Memorial Chapel in Wakefield. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Lakeside Memorial Chapel, with Vern's sister-in-law, Linda "Cricket" Detloff, officiating.


Vern will be laid to rest following funeral services in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips
