US Navy Captain. Rush was appointed midshipman in 1863, and saw active service aboard the ship Marion during the Civil War. After the close of the war he was promoted through the various ranks until in 1891 he was made Lieutenant Commander and later Commander. He left the service as an Navy Captain. He was the son of J. Murray Rush.
