Madeline Oliver Garbutt, age 96 of Lyons, died Monday, August 29, 2011 at her home after an extended illness. She was born in Gwinnett County, Georgia, and moved to Hazlehurst in 1926. She graduated from the Hazlehurst High School, and attended local colleges. She moved to Lyons in 1946, where she became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lyons, and was a member and teacher of the Leck Strader Sunday School Class. She was a member of the DAR, and a member and Past President of the Lyons Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of seventy-seven years, Robert Leon "Poff" Garbutt, in 2010; her beloved son, Dr. Bob Garbutt in 2006; her parents, Dr. Jesse Moody Oliver, Sr. and Jessie Medlock Oliver; and three siblings, Jesse Moody "J.M." Oliver, Jr., Mary Marjorie Oliver, and Jo Oliver Wood.



Mrs. Garbutt is survived by two daughters, Jesslyn Garbutt Ezell and Tom of Albany; and Jeannine Garbutt Rollins and Trey of Atlanta, a daughter-in-law, Sandra Perkinson Garbutt of Lyons, ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, a primary caregiver and special friend, Angie Stanfield and caregiver, Claudia Robinson.



Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 1st at 12:00 pm in the First United Methodist Church of Lyons with Reverend Barry Giddens officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyons City Cemetery.



The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 11:00 until 12:00.
