Oleta Ware Porter, 89, passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011. Service: 9:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Benbrook. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: Expressions of sympathy may be made to FBC-Benbrook Future Seed Fund or Future Generation International Mission, a Haitian ministry of one of Mrs. Porter's caregivers, at www.fgimwitness.org.
Mrs. Porter was born April 29, 1922, in Rising Star. She lived a life of service to her Lord, her family and her church, First Baptist Church of Benbrook, of which she was a member for 40 years. Her previous membership was at Alta Mere Baptist Church. Children were her favorite ministry to which she taught Sunday school, GAs and Mission Friends for as long as she was physically able. They were her joy! She made everyone feel loved and accepted and always spoke well of others. God's nature always fascinated her as she stopped to look at the birds and squirrels in her back yard and continually tended to her flowerbeds and plants. She and her husband loved to travel, camping as much as possible. They accomplished their goal of traveling to all 50 states. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burnett "B.C." Porter.
Survivors: Daughters, Connie Forbes and husband, Gary, Edith Snow and husband, Jerry, Rhonda Smith and husband, Doug, and Darla Ezell and husband, Andy; grandchildren, Amy Thompson, Clint Snow and wife, Jana, Matthew Forbes, Rachel and Christina Smith, and Kelsey and Brandon Ezell; great-grandchildren, Trinity Thompson, and Colton and Landon Snow; sister, Lena Gage; brother, Cline Ware; and many nieces and nephews.
