Services will be held Thursday for Gerald E. "Jerry" Abrahamson, who passed away April 21, 1996, in Eureka at the age of 67. He was a resident of Fortuna.
A lifelong resident of Humboldt County, Jerry was born in Eureka on May 8, 1928, the only child of Ellen Lolax and Edwin Abrahamson. He attended Eureka City Schools. He became a long-line trucker for Callison Trucking and later went to work for the Pacific Lumber Company, retiring in 1976. After his retirement, Jerry became a commercial fisherman, owning and operating his own boats, the Dolphin and the King Salmon.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Velda Abrahamson of Fortuna; three daughters and their spouses, Mary and Greg Griswold of Central Point, OR, Janet and Jim Ross of Hydesville, and DeeAnne and Doug Green of Vacaville; three grandchildren, Andrea Langdon of Eureka, Rebecca Griswold of Eugene, OR, and James Ross of Hydesville; Aunt Rose Abrahamson of Willow Creek; and his cousin, Bob Abrahamson of Redding. He is also survived by numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin, in 1971; his mother, Ellen (Lolax) Sobol, in 1986; and his stepfather, Charles "Red" Sobol in 1990.
Friends are invited to attend services Thursday, April 25, 1996, at 10 a.m. at Goble's Chapel Fortuna with the Rev. Pastor Bob Atkinson officiating.
Interment will follow at Sunrise Cemetery, Fortuna with his daughters and sons-in-law serving as casket bearers.
Arrangements are under the direction of Goble's Chapel, Fortuna, where friends may call today until 5 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to service time.
The family has asked that those wishing make memorial contributions to a favorite charity.
