Doris LaVonne Welch, age 77, passed away peacefully in Wichita Falls, Texas, surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, May 14, 2009.

Doris was born on July 17, 1931, in Morrisonville, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Martin and Edna (Wernick) Manthe. She was one of 11 children. On Nov. 10, 1951, Doris was united in marriage to William R. Welch Jr. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, in the Town of Leeds, Wisconsin. Doris is survived by her loving children, Timothy (Renee) Welch, Robert (Deborah) Welch, and Scott (Michele) Welch; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six siblings, Isabel Arneson of DeForest, Norbert Manthe of DeForest, James (Marie) Manthe of Perham, Minn., William "Billy" Manthe of Neshkoro, Raymond (Suzanne) Manthe of Oak Creek, and Donald (Shirley) Manthe of Mauston; a sister-in-law, Donna Manthe of Madison. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Laurel Lee; mother (1986); father (1987); husband (1987); brothers, Gerald (1998) and Eugene (1999); sisters, Elaine Ziegler (2007) and Karen Kilen (2008); sisters-in-law, Sally Manthe and LaVonne Manthe; brothers-in-law, Chet Arneson, L. Merlin Ziegler and Keith Kilen.

Funeral services will be held at Gunderson East Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Drive, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, with the Rev. Bernt Tweit presiding. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m until 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, Texas, www.hospiceofwf.org.
