The Fairbury Journal-Dec. 5, 1918
Mrs. Eldridge died at her home in Fairbury, Nebr., at 905 Sixth St., at 6:05 p. m., Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1918, at the age of 64 years, 2 months and 24 days.
The immediate cause of her death was dropsy, following an illness of nine weeks. She had been, however, in more or less ill health for a number of years.
Ella Baldwin was born September 9, 1854, in Ohio, daughter of Morgan and Anne Baldwin. She was married September 11, 1876, in Fairbury to Lester W. Eldridge, who survives her, together with one child, Nellie, wife of Chas. H. McGee. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. J. T. Thompson, formerly of Fairbury, now residing in Denver, Colo., and one brother, E. E. Baldwin, of Forrest City, Iowa. There is one grandchild, Aileen, daughter of Mrs. McGee. For many years she was a member of the Baptist church of Fairbury.
Mrs. Eldridge was one of the earliest settlers of Fairbury, coming here with her parents in 1874, about five years after the town was laid out, from Knoxville, Iowa, their former home. The period of her life in Fairbury was forty-four years, or since she was twenty years of age. Two years after coming here she was married for more than forty years she has been head of one of the established and cultured homes of Fairbury. During the last few years ill health was her portion but she bore her sufferings bravely and until very recently accepted and carried on her social and household duties without evasion or complaint. Many friends in Fairbury and vicinity are grieved at her death and will miss her cheerful presence and engaging manner.
Funeral services were held at the residence, at 3 p. m., Thursday, December 5, services being conducted by her pastor, Rev. Rolla E. Brown of the Fairbury Baptist church. Burial was in the Fairbury cemetery.
