Eva Mary Ann Pridgeon was born November 19, 1901 to John and Jessie Arnold Pridgeon at Anthon, Iowa. She moved with her parents and brother Henry to Clark SD in 1906,to Belle Fourche SD in 1909, and to their homestead southwest of Newcastle in 1910 where she grew to womanhood.

She married W. Ray Cummings on November 28, 1918 at her parent's homestead. Eva and Ray ranched until 1937 near Newcastle when they moved briefly to Phillipsburg MT. They returned to their ranch in 1940 and thirty years later moved into Newcastle.

Eva and Ray had three children:Sons, John W. and Harold A. and daughter, Irene.

Ray died in 1971 and in 1972 Eva married Arthur Shell to whom she was married at the time of her death.
