ACKLAND, THOMAS EARLE—Thomas Earle Ackland was born March 16, 1899, near Grafton, Neb., to Thomas D. and Ruth Dobson Ackland, and died May 15, 1978, at his home in Geneva, Neb., at the age of 79.
After attending school at Fairmont, Grafton and Geneva, he farmed near Geneva until moving to town in 1958.
Both while on the farm and in town, his ties to the soil and interest in farming were strong. Always active, he spent many hours of his retirement years at his woodworking hobby, being noted for his clocks and lamps.
He also took great pride in his grandchildren and spent much time with them.
He was united in marriage to Hazel Nun on January 1, 1933. To this union was born two sons and a daughter, Laurence Earl, Robert Lee and Elaine Sharon.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother, Albert, and his sister, May.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel; brother, Francis of near Geneva; son, Laurence and daughter-in-law, Betty, of Springfield, Va.; son, Robert and daughter-in-law, Joan, of near Geneva; daughter, Elaine, and son-in-law, John Kucera, of Salt Lake City, Utah; grandchildren, Laurence Kevin, Michael, Kristen, Steven, Daniel, Gene, Tony, David, James, Richard and William.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 17, at the Farmer & Son funeral home in Geneva.
Rev. Jay Funk officiated.
Organist was Miss Lorri Barbur and the vocalist was Miss Susan Najmon.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Hofferber, Hubert Johnson, Jessie Richards, Leonard Ackland, Ross Johnson and Joe E. Schelkopf.
Interment was in the Geneva public cemetery.
