Berk was 94 years old when he died in a local hospital. He was born at Little Blue River while the state was still Indian Territory. Berk and his family moved into their home in Pontotoc in 1930 and he lived there until he died.

For ten years Berk was contracted to bus students for Pontotoc schools and the first six of those ten years were with a wagon and team. He also served as a custodian for the school. Berk became Postmaster for Pontotoc in 1930 and held that position for 17 years. Other jobs he held were delivering ice; working for the county; working in the oil field; working for the State Highway Department for 11 years; and he was a sexton for Pontotoc Cemetery.

Berk was preceded in death by his wife; one son; a daughter; 3 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was survived by 5 sons; 5 daughters; 33 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were at Pontotoc United Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 29, 1995. Rev. Jack Edward Roper officiated. Criswell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
