Born in the Yorkshire Dales village of Dent, Joseph Alderson was baptized 9 Apr 1780, son of Edmund Alderson and Mary Craggs Alderson. He married 29 Apr 1805 also in Dent, with Frances Willan, daughter of Thomas Willan and Margaret Hayton Willan.
They had several children in England, at least three died in infancy. The difficult economic conditions there encouraged them to emigrate to Canada. Once settled, they had many more children -- children who survived to adulthood:
MARGARET ALDERSON (27 Dec 1807 bap 24 Jan 1808 Dent, Yorkshire). She survived childhood to emigrate and later marry William Harkin (He was born abt 1805 in Northern Ireland and emigrated to Ontario with his parents).
MARY ALDERSON (bap 24 Feb 1811 Dent, Yorkshire, she died 1892 in Lake Crystal, MN; she married William McLane, an emigrant who was born abt 1800 in Northern Ireland and he died in 1874 in Frankville, IA).
ELIZABETH ALDERSON (bap 28 Feb 1813 Dent, Yorkshire, she died 12 Jul 1870 in Thamesford, Oxford Co., Ontario , married with Thomas Rutledge who was born 17 Oct 1802 in Kinawley, Ireland, bap 26 Dec 1802 in Kinawley,Ulster County of Fermanaugh, Northern Ireland and he died 26 Nov 1883 in Oxford Co., Ontario). He was the son of emigres Hugh Rutledge and Elizabeth Nixon.
ISABELLA LOUISE ALDERSON (bap 12 Mar 1815 Dent, Yorkshire married on 8 Sep 1837 with Robert Owen Evans. He was born abt 1815 in Wales and died 28 Sep 1910 in Hamilton Co., IA.
He was the son of emigres Owen Evans and Jane Jones.
FRANCES ALDERSON (bap 29 Sep 1817 Dent, Yorkshire and died in 1893 in St Mary's, Ontario. She married 24 Oct 1840 with James Morton. He was born abt 1812 and died 6 Mar 1897 in St Mary's, Ontario)
HESTER ALDERSON (bap 14 Apr 1819 Dent, Yorkshire and died 14 Mar 1909 Toronto, Ontario). She married Robert Henderson who was born in 1822 in Northern Ireland, emigrated as a young man to Canada, then no. Dakota and finally Minneapolis, MN and died 25 Mar 1906 in Minneapolis, MN.
JOSEPH ALDERSON (born abt 1824 and he died 18 Jan 1908 in Thamesford, Ingersoll, Ontario). He was the eldest SON of the family and he kept the original farm of his settler parents. He married three times, outliving his wives.
First, on 4 Apr 1844, he married CATHERINE NEELIN. She was born 25 Dec 1823 in Gouldburn Twp, Ontario and she died in 1858).She was the daughter of adjacent neighbors in Gouldburn settlement
The second marriage was with MARY ROBINSON on 8 Mar 1859 at the Wesleyan Methodist Church, East Nissouri, Ontario. She was born abt 1836 in Smith Twp, Ontario and died 12 Feb 1876 in Kintore, Ontario.)She was the daughter of Watson Robinson and Elizabeth Robinson.
The third marriage was with MARY WHITE on 2 Oct 1888 in St Mary's, Perth Co., Ontario She was born abt 1830 and died on 11 May 1913 in St Mary's, Ontario.She was the daughter of David White.
