John Wesley Cooley was the son of John Cooley and Martha Snodgrass from Wythe County, Virginia. Around 1822 while John was still a young boy, his family moved from Wythe, VA to Fayette Co, Indiana, and around 1837 moved to La Porte Co, Indiana.
John married Sarah Ann Albright on 28 Dec 1842 in Cass County, MI and lived in La Porte County, Indiana. His father John Cooley died in La Porte County early 1845, and after John's mother Martha died in La Porte County in Dec 1849, in 1850 John moved his family to Fayette Co, Iowa where he remained until his death in 1866.
John and Sarah had six children:
