Margaret S. Marthaler, 78, of Detroit Lakes, died at her home on Satruday, January 21, 2006, under the care of Hospice Of The Red River Valley. Margaret S. Quick was born to Walter and Ester (Heying) Quick on May 29, 1927 in Rhineland, Mo. She was raised in Rhineland, and graduated from high school in Columbia, Mo. Margaret married Bernard Marthaler on Nov. 15, 1947, in a double wedding with her sister Lioba in Columbia, Mo. Margaret and Bernard farmed near Waubun from 1947 to 1991, when they moved to Detroit Lakes. Margaret was a member of Christian Mothers, Homemakers, and the Farmers Union. She was an excellent homemaker, and she cared for her family deeply. She enjoyed dogs and working crossword puzzles. Margaret is survived by her husband, Bernard Marthaler of Detroit Lakes; and daughter, Linda Berger of Anaheim, Calif.; three sons, Mark (Vicki) Marthaler of Detroit Lakes, Barry Marthaler of Franzee and Kevin (Kay) Marthaler of Murfreesborg, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Chester (Ruth) Quick of New Orleans, La.; and a sister, Lioba Weir of Cedar Hill, Mo. Preceding her in death were her two brothers, Sydney and Arthur Quick. Friends may call between 5-8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes. There will be a Christian Mothers Rosary at 7 p.m., and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. The visitaiton will continue for one hour prior to Thursdays funeral at the church. A mass of Christian burial is set for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Jerry Rogers officiating. Interment will be in St. Josephs Cemetery, Beaulieu, Minn. The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes is serving the family.
