Injuries From
Fall Are Fatal
James R. Throckmorton, prominent Waynesburg business man, died Monday night, Jan 5, 1948, at 10 o'clock at his home, 58 South West street, aged 85 years, 11 months and 18 days. Mr. Throckmorton's death was attributed to injuries received in a fall down the stairway in his home on December 29.
A lifelonf resident of Greene County, he was born January 20, 1862, in Center Township, a son of Wesley and Catherine Braden Throckmorton. He married Matilda Scott in 1884, with whom he celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary just two days before he suffered the fall which resulted in his death.
Mr. Throckmorton followed the mercantile business for a number of years in early life, conducting stores at various places in Greene County, and had continued active in business affairs until his last illness. He was associated with his brother, the late E. B. Throckmorton, in organizing the South Penn Telephone Company in Waynesburg, and had extensive business interests. He was one of the county's most ardent fishermen and for many years had held the No. 1 fishing license issued in the county each year.
Early in life he united with the Throckmorton Methodist Church, at Eastview, two miles west of Waynesburg, and in later years had been an active member of the First Methodist Church of Waynesburg, being a member of the official board of that church.
Besides hiw wife, he leaves two daughters, Mary, wife of James H. Ely of Waynesburg, and Nell, wife of Willis J. Hutchins, of Irwin. There are four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One son and one daughter are deceased. Mr. Throckmorton was the last of his family.

THROCKMORTON - Private funeral services for James R. Throckmorton, of Waynesburg, who died Monday, Jan. 5, 1948, will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, at 3 p.m. at the family residence, 58 South West street, in charge of his pastor, the Rev. F. D. Esenwein. Burial in Oakmont Cemetery. Friends are being received at the home. J. Ross Garrison, funeral director.
