George A. Porter was born August 9, 1887, Mediapolis, Iowa. He died Wednesday, September 21, 1960 at the age of 73, of cardiac asthma. His immediate family include his wife, Edna May Gafford, to whom he would have been married 49 years this October 24th; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Fydell of Inglewood and Mrs. Elizabeth Pierson of Burbank; a sister, Mrs. Jane Bruce Patterson of Detroit, Michigan. He also leaves six granddaughters.

As a young man, George attended the University of Kansas. He was a student in the University's Law School and it was at K.U. that he met the sweetheart whom he married. At the University, the athletic skills which he developed throughout his youth were constantly in demand on the first string of the College football team.

During the early years of his married life, he was an officer in the family bank in Kansas. Later he and his wife and children moved to Riverside, California, where their cobblestone house was home for the members of his family for over twenty-five years. For the past five years he has lived near his two daughters and their families in Burbank.

Faith, a generous disposition, and a devotion to his family were outstanding characteristics which made him a beloved father and husband.
