Stephen Wendell Paul Mutek, passed away at his home in Roselle Park, N.J. Steve was raised in Elizabeth, son of the late Stephen L. and Frances (Baraniecki) Mutek. He went to work as an electrician's apprentice, making sewing machines for Singer Manufacturing Company, Elizabeth, N.J. A veteran of the Korean War, Steve served for two years on active duty in the U.S. Army in 1953 and 1954. Prior to that, he actively served for two years in the N.J. National Guard. Following his military service, Steve was employed as a splicer by N.J. Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1990 after 36 years. Steve married Roselyn Grombone in 1957 at Assumption Church, Roselle Park. The couple lived in Roselle Park, NJ.
Steve was an avid supporter of youth athletics throughout his adult life. In 1969, he founded the Roselle Park Pop Warner Football League, for which he served as president, coach and team manager for many years. He also coached many years for the Assumption CYO Baseball League.
In addition to his parents, Steve was predeceased by his sister, Elaine T. Shubeck, in 2007. He is survived by his wife; children, Rayanne (and Bryan) Bennett of Lower Saucon, Pa.; Stephen (and Patricia) of Tahuya, Wash., Lynn (and Robert) Brand of Jackson, N.J., and Paul (and Cathy) of Mercerville, N.J.; 10 grandchildren, Sara Trawin, Jesse Damiano, Trevor, Casey and Shane Brand, and Jeremy, Ryan, Stephanie, Steve and Katie Mutek; four great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Sofia, Jordan and Cecilia; in-laws, Marlene and Robert Shriner of Roselle Park, Mary and Rodney Robinson of Wildomar, Calif., Sharon Grombone of Lakehead, Calif. and John Shubeck of Cranford, N.J.; two step-granddaughters, and three step-great-granddaughters, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
