Mr. Battell passed away at home. He was a machine operator for Western Electric, Kearny, for 40 years before retiring in 1980. A sergeant in the Army during World War II, Mr. Battell served in Central Europe and the Rhineland and received the Bronze Star on Feb. 4, 1944 for heroism behind enemy lines.
He moved to Roselle Park 78 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret; daughters, Mrs. Christine von Bischoffshaufen, Ms. Maryann Barraco, Mrs. Diane Scaglione and Mrs. Karen Silva; sons, James E. III, Kevin R. and Brian K.; sisters, Ms. Katherine Battell , Mrs. Theresa Davis, Mrs. Elizabeth Donnelly and Mrs. Georgine Hynes, and 13 grandchildren.
