Virgil U. "Butch" BAHNEY, 70 of 12244 E. 225 South, Akron, died at 5:15 a.m. Friday at Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. Virgil was born Nov. 16, 1938, in Akron, to Urban S. and Nellie E. (Dillsaver) Bahney. He was married June 3, 1962, at the Akron Church of God to Reta Y. Hopkins; she survives at home.

He retired in 2000 from Square D in Peru where he worked in the maintenance department. Prior to his employment with Square D and serving in the Marines he worked as a welder.

He was a 1956 graduate of Gilead High School, and a member of the Moose Lodge No. 249, Peru.

He is survived by his wife, Reta Bahney, Akron; a son, Paul Bahney, Rochester; two daughters, Denise Messer with friend Gene Slone, Warsaw, and Lisa Bahney with partner Dessen Rink, Goshen; one sister, Bonnie "Collene" Miller, Gilead; two brothers, Marvin and wife Carol Bahney, Akron, and John and wife Barb Bahney, Macy; five grandchildren, Ashley Bahney, Logan and Jerrica Messer, and Dustin and Bailey Rink.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Bobbie Bahney on Nov. 8, 1997.
