The terrific cost in lives as the result of World War II was brought home to Mount Morris residents this week when the body of Pvt Charles L. Macaluso, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Macaluso of Hopkin Street was brought to this village Tuesday morning. He was fatally wounded in France July 15, 1944, where he was serving his country with the US Army. The body was taken directly to the home of his parents.
Funeral services were in charge of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marine Corps League, Commander Thomas Pritchard of the American Legion was in charge, with committal services at the grave in charge of Sam Scalia, chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. The firing squad was in charge of Leo Downey.
Private Macaluso was a graduate of Mt. Morris High School, entered the service on Aug 9, 1943 and received training with the Army Tank Corps at Fort Knox, Ky. He left for overseas on February 1944 and was stationed in England for several weeks. Later he went into action in France with the 74th Tank Battalion and was seriously wounded on July 15, 1944. He died in an army hospital in France on July 17, 1944. He was 21 years of age at the time of his death.
Besides his parents, he leaves two brothers, Nicholas and Frank and two sisters, Mrs. Ignatius Loneao and Mrs. Philip LaRosa, all of Mr. Morris.
