ELKHART -- Robert L. Cavinder, 61, of Elkhart, died at 4:08 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka.
He was born March 30, 1950, in Kendallville to Robert E. and Fern G. (Boyce) Cavinder. On Aug. 29, 1969, in Goshen, he married Cynthia G. Mabie.
She survives along with son Robert B. (Patti) Cavinder of Mishawaka; daughter Rebecca L. (Cliff) Griggs of Elkhart; and grandchildren Mercedes, Tyler and Brooklyn. Also surviving are his mother, Fern G. Cavinder of Elkhart; brother Ken (Marti) Cavinder of Wyatt; and sister Kathleen Cavinder of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Robert graduated in 1968 from Elkhart High School. He was a member of Kane Masonic Lodge in Elkhart, a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend and a member of the Cass County Shrine Club. He enjoyed fishing and shooting. Robert was a pipe- fitter for more than 35 years, working for Local 166 in Fort Wayne.
A private family graveside service will be Saturday at Rice Cemetery. Pastor Dick Dunn will preside.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association.
