Van Buren--- Alyre J. Ayotte, 90, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 at a Van Buren healthcare facility. He was born in Hamlin on May 12, 1924, the eldest child of the late Oneil and Martha (Roy) Ayotte.
Alyre was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post #49, having served proudly during World War II with the 150th Combat Engineer Division, part of General George Patten’s 4th Armored Division. He drove a reconnaissance jeep and, because he spoke and translated French exceptionally well, translated much needed information to his superiors. He participated in D-Day operations while stationed in France with the US Army and continued to serve several tours with the Merchant Marines.
He was a well-known Master Plumber who was admired by all for his knowledge and skill of his trade. He worked and supervised many of the jobs at various schools, colleges and hospitals in Aroostook County, and he traveled throughout much of the state, while employed with Industrial Heating and Piping. Alyre and his wife Antoinette enjoyed many years traveling together until declining health, however, he was always content enjoying their time together simply passing the day away on the porch swing.
He is survived by: his second wife, Antoinette (Clavette) Ayotte; five daughters, LuAnn Levesque of Bristol, CT, Delcia Clough of Center Conway,NH, Nadeen Plourde and her husband Mike of Caribou, Beverly Deschaines and her husband Jim of Van Buren, and Allison Paradis and her husband Neil of Van Buren; a very special daughter-in-law, Nancy Ouellette of Van Buren; two brothers, Bertrand and Daniel Ayotte of Augusta, ME; one sister, Laurie Rodrigue of Venice, FL; fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Alyre is predeceased by: his first wife of 50 years, Yvette (Corriveau) Ayotte; one son, Gary G. Ayotte; a grandson, Ronald Levesque Jr.; two sons-in-law, Ronald Levesque Sr. and Donald Clough; and seven siblings, Mildred Charette, Jeanette Coe, Mona Gagnon, Francine Boucher, Alphadore Ayotte, Clarence Ayotte and Dominque Ayotte.
