A native of Polk County, he was a son of the late Larkin Jessie Ruff and Leona Collins Ruff and husband of the late Sally Ownbey Ruff, who died in 1994. He was an Army veteran of W.W. II, a member of Bearwallow Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Gerton Volunteer Fire & Rescue Dept. and was a retired woodworker and carpenter.
He is survived by two daughters, Maxine Buckner of Spartanburg and Hazel Lyda of Gerton; a son, Joe Russell of Hendersonville; four grandchildren and eight great-
grandchildren.
