Theodore Henry (Bird) Byrd married Nancy Ogburn White, on Sep 21, 1856, in Harris County Georgia.

"It is believed that Theodore's father (as best we can determine from Georgia records) was hotel-keeper Edward BYRD of Augusta, Georgia, and Theodore's mother was Mahala PATE." [Information: from descendant family of Annie Crenshaw].

See Nancy's memorial for the children.

Theodore served in the Civil War; 2nd Lt. Co F, 5th Infantry Regt., Georgia Volunteer Infantry. The Unit formed in Randolph County Georgia, they were dubbed "The Cuthbert Rifles", and served in the Army of Tennessee.

He was wounded in battle, contracted pneumonia, and was discharged disabled.

In 1926, after Theodore's death, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, awarded, Theordore the Southern Cross of Honor, his son Charles P Byrd, received the award, on behalf of his father. The Unit saw major action in the war.
