*Obituary: "The Yuma Pioneer" newspaper, Thursday, March 31, 1921 - Yuma, Colorado.
Daniel Gassaway died at the home in Yuma last Friday March 25, aged 65 years, 9 months and 3 days. The funeral was held at the late home Saturday afternoon, Rev. W. L. Breckenridge officiating and the interment was in the Yuma Cemetery.*

The only thing I remember my father ( George Clifton ) telling me about why they went to Colorado was to work in the construction business (mainly Miles Davis and his cousins). I am only speculating here, but, I do know that there was a lot of sickness and death in Arkansas (as in many other states too) due to the flu epidemic of 1917 - 1918. Both sides of my family living in White county Arkansas came down with the flu. My maternal grandfather died in Dec 1918 and both of my paternal grandparents came down with the flu at this time. Daniel's family may have been trying to get away from the epidemic. (Information from Jerry Gasaway)

Listed on the United States Federal Censuses of 1910 at Antioch, White County & 1920 at McRae, White County, Arkansas.

*Tombstone Date of Birth looks like 1885, but if you look closely it's really 1855, it was a mistake that they try to fix by engraving a 5 over the eight. You can tell the difference in person*
